HALIYAFY Publishing House

Haliyafy (Goliaths) Publishing House, founded on 25th of November 2007 by writers Mikhas’ Bashura and Zmitser Vishneu, has united many representatives of the Belarusian modern art (writers and poets, painters, scientists, musicians, masters of performance). It is aimed at informing Belarusian as well as foreign readers about the most important cultural events, the newest esthetic practices, the most promising projects.

The founders of Haliyafy, Mikhas’ Bashura and Zmitser Vishneu are well known to readers: in the early 90s they participated in the literary and artistic movement “Bum-Bam-Lit” which played an important role in the development of modern belles-lettres. After “Bum-Bam-Lit” seized its existence, few of the ex-participants created a group of radical writers and poets “SCHMERZWERK” which has launched an extensive activity. For example in 2000 a series of books “Second front of arts” (editor-in-chief Zmitser Vishneu) appeared, which was published at the publishing houses “Roon’” (Vilnius), “Nevskii prostor” (Saint-Petersburg), “Logvinau”(Minsk). The series “The second front of arts” has united many conceptual authors – more than 30 books came out. A literary environment representing modern Belarusian art was created and that is even more important. It unites young and experienced writers, people of different esthetic preferences who aspire to participate in the forming of literary process, to develop cultural environment, to find and support new talented authors.

Haliyafy Publishing House continues to publish the series “Second front of arts” and in 2009 – 2010 is going to publish about 40 books – poetry, prose, essays, critics, experimental researches of underground and subculture art and others. Moreover it is worth mentioning such series of books as “Absent Belarusian art”, “Collection of Belarusian fiction”, “Portraits of Polish literary”, “XXI century: poetic horizons” as well as a series for children “Sunflowers”.

All the authors of Haliyafy Publishing House make every effort to create literature of good quality in the Belarusian language. They are interested in new esthetic tendencies of the European culture, know modern literary environment, and actively participate in the development of avant-guard. The future projects of Haliyafy include the organization of different literary performances, actions, festivals, competitions as well as providing information about the most important events of cultural life to a wide range of readers.
